Swimmer’s ear is an infection in the outer ear canal. Most often the causes are from swimming or bathing. Either way, a moist environment is created for bacteria to grow. Some people are more susceptible than others. This may be because some people’s ear canals curve more than others or some people naturally have more wax in their ears than others making it a more hospitable environment for the bacteria over other ears without wax an abundance of wax to trap the water.
Either way swimmer’s ear is no fun! It causes pain, swelling, itching, redness, drainage and can cause temporary hearing loss.
